A model name alone is not enough

Many recent iPhones and cellular iPads, Google Pixel phones, selected Samsung Galaxy models and devices from other manufacturers support eSIM. Support can still differ by sales region, device variant, carrier and software version, so a model list never replaces a check on the actual device.

A carrier-locked phone may reject another provider’s profile even when its hardware supports eSIM. Some variants sold in particular regions also omit the feature.

Check directly in device settings

On iPhone or a cellular iPad, look for Add eSIM under Settings and Cellular or Mobile Data. On Android, look for Add eSIM, Download SIM or Add mobile plan under Network and internet, Connections or SIM manager. An EID shown in device information usually indicates eSIM capability.

Make sure the device is unlocked and up to date. If uncertain, check the manufacturer’s official documentation for the exact model number and region, or ask the original carrier before purchasing.

Make a final check before buying

Confirm that the Add eSIM menu exists, the device can accept another provider’s profile, and the plan destination and supported networks match your trip. The device needs internet access while the profile is installed.

Do not rely only on a series name: two devices with the same marketing name can have different capabilities by region or carrier. Support can help when you provide the brand, full model number, purchase country and carrier-lock status.
